I couldn’t believe when I got the Congratulations message from Apple…then panic set in (how will I get there, where will I stay, how will I get around?)
Is anyone else attending Apple’s WWDC25 in Cupertino this year? Has anyone attended previous years and is willing to tell me what it’s like, which hotels to avoid? If I can walk or will Lyft/Uber become my best friends? And do you have meet-ups planned (and if so, when and where)?
It was FANTASTIC! About 1400 people were expected. Sunday was the day to pick up the badge and swag bag, with a get-together reception and activities. Lots of attendees put pins in a map to represent where they came from. The close up is Massachusetts (one pin on Cape Code, and mine in Worcester). The larger photo shows the pins around the world. Monday was the keynote. Somehow, a couple of us get there too early and bypassed the check in point. It was neat to walk around watching the last-minute preparations before a lot of people showed up. We were escorted to the sign in area to go through security, finally. There was a lot of applause for some of the topics (I think the loudest and longest was actually for On Hold…where it tells the representative from the place that put you on hold that you are being notified that a real person was finally available and would be right with them. And the crowd at the keynote went WILD! The cool thing is there were live introductions to the recorded keynote. The only feedback I have is that it would be nice to know where, exactly, different things are happening versus where check-in is, each day (there is a difference in walking difference from 4 minutes to 34 minutes depending on if I enter the destination (Apple Park) versus sign in area (Apple Visitor’s Center) or 1 Infinite Loop for the reception. Oh, and the average line wait time. Would I apply to go again? In a heartbeat! The in-person effect is infectious and invigorating.
I love this update @CacheProgrammer. I’ve just had a look at the On Hold feature, looks good, I know those in the UK would definitely appreciate it for their one hour calls to the HMRC
